Disc brake conversion
HI I just bought a 69' ranger long bed. Drove it 420 miles to get it home. I have a 77 f100 for a donor truck. My question is this, do I use the brake booster and MC off the 77. And if so, will I have to change brake pedal or redesign it> Also one more question. I want to put new coil springs and shocks on front when I change it all over. Do I buy for a 69 or 77 year model? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I reread it and stilldid see it, but im printing it out and will read through it tonight again. I just did not see any info other than pulling booster & mc when I harvest other parts. But sometimes I miss details so ill try to study it out better tonight. And yes I love my truck. John

The brake pedal should work fine. Which coil springs you use depends on which radius arms you use. If you use the cast ones from the '69 you use '69 springs, if you use the stamped ones from the '77 you use '77 springs. The shocks should be the same for either one. You will need the steering linkage and pitman arm from the 77 or you will have to modify the spindles to work with the '69 linkage.

re: Disc brake conversion
As long as the donor truck is a mid-'77 or earlier, the booster will work just fine. Mid-'77 and later trucks have a different booster setup that will not work on earlier trucks. The master cylinder will work, up through '79. Your existing pedal will work as well.
Here are some pictures to illustrate the differences. If your booster looks like this, it won't work:

If it looks like this, it WILL work:

re: Disc brake conversion
Besides the manufacturing process is there a major difference between stamped and casted radius arms? Any dimensional changes?
Are the ratings for the springs for a stamped radius arm different from a casted? I am trying to figure out if I can use the springs in my 66 with the 79 spindles, radius arm, and i-beam I found. Thanks.

I do not agree with the statement that the springs are differant.
The local truck shop here told me that they are all the same part number. Only 2 numbers for an F-100/F-150 through F-250 2x4 '65-'79.
One For I-6
One For V-8
They said that the differance in the arms does effect the alignment a little, but is fixed by getting a propper alignment. ($67.00)

re: Disc brake conversion
I put 77 I-beams on my truck. I used the 68 radius arms and 68 springs (original 6 cyl).
The 77 I-beams looked the same to me. They sure don't look like "stamped steel".

All the I beams are forged steel. Our trucks also have forged radius arms.73-79 radius arms are stamped steel.iamthewreckingcrew wrote:I put 77 I-beams on my truck. I used the 68 radius arms and 68 springs (original 6 cyl).

Ahhh...OK
Maybe I read something wrong up there. Yes the radius arms on the 77 were formed, or stamped steel. Thanks for straightening me out.

re: Disc brake conversion
Ok I finally got to check my booster and MC . And it will work. So now I just need to start pulling parts. My plan is to replace alot of the front end and I know my MC is bad. So for now ill pull parts and buy new parts as money allows. Thanks again for your help everyone. John
