Front end questions

Post by doctorcharles08 »

I want to rebuild my front end. What all would I need to do? Am I able to do everything myself? I think the king pins would have to be done with a press something I don't have. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Just drop your whole front end and strip it down to the I-beam/spindle assembly. Take that assembly to your local machine shop and ask them to replace the kingpins and bushings, making sure you specify bronze bushings. The bronze bushings are slightly oversize and will need to be reamed to fit the kingpin. They'll reassemble everything for you. The kingpin set is about $50-$60 and the labor to press in and ream the new bushings is another $50 or so...at least that's what I was charged. The total bill came to just a little over $100.

...and don't forget to keep 'em greased up!
