replacing the brakes.

Post by 67 F100 in Richmond »

so i need to replace the brake system (it is very crappy) takes about 3000 feet to stop from 55 (maybe not 3000 but quick stopping is NOT good :help:

all i can do is  and start slowing down about 300 feet behind some one at a t light or else smoosh...

what kind/brand
approximate cost?

for a shadetree mechanic is that easy enough? or should i pay someone to do it for me?

Thanks again for everything. :fr:  :fr:

Replace???

Everything?

If you are a fairly competent shadre tree, this isn't hard work. What it is , is nasty! I Hate drum brakes. Best advice i could give you is get a Chiltons, or a Haynes manual, & read the procedure before you tackle it.
If it's drum, leave one side intact while you do the other side, gives you a road map so to speak. Take your time, and remember on assembly, cleanliness is next to Godliness

So true...

as for cost.

$350 - $400 to do Everything but new brake lines.
(Hoses, Fluid, Wheel Cylinders, Shoes, Drums, Hardware (if needed), etc...)

I would make sure you have a GOOD set of Line Wrenches. A standard open wrench will not work. You will twist the old line off if you use a normal wrench. Be sure to soak the end fittings in WD-40 or PB-Blaster for a few days before you start.

If you want to do NEW everything and the convertion at the same time, you can use my price sheet, just make sure you get the parts that match yours, not mine. ;)
