Hi, New member from Michigan here!
I just bought a 1971 F100 Custom, LWB, 2 wheel drive. It is a G engine code 302 with a 3 speed manual on the column. I bought it form a guy in Texas not seeing it in person, just pictures. He told me that it has been in Texas since it was new and it has no rust issues, or known mechanical problems. Let's hope he's a man of his word, I guess I will find out when it's delivered! The interior is rough but I was mainly concerned with finding a rust free body as a starting point. I am not looking to make it 100% original. but more of a dependable, clean, cool old truck that I can use to haul things back and fourth as well as pull my 3500lb loaded motorcycle trailer twice a year from MI to FL.
My first vehicle was a 1974 F100 Custom, LWB, 2 wheel drive. with a 360 3 speed manual. I loved that truck more than life itself back then! And I guess this new truck brought back those memories of the "green monster" as everyone in my family called it, and I had to Have it!
I was a certified mechanic,(let my certifications expire) although I haven't swung wrenches for profit in a number of years. I have never really restored a vehicle so that part i am going to need some help with. And this place seems like a good place to get technical assistance which I'm sure I am going to need in the near future! I work for Ford Motor Company and did work in the Dynamometer lab testing engines for 8 years. If I can Help anyone out with any technical assistance I will try my best! I do have one question to start off with. Does anyone have any experience with this POR-15? If this new truck IS as rust free as I am hoping I want to preserve it Right away! I am thinking about using that or rustproofing or a combination of both to preserve it. It will be used in the winter and i don't want the Michigan salt to eat it away underneath me! Any experience and personal insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated! Once it is here I am going to take a large number of pics to document it's as received condition so I can document it's restoration. and I will post them to find out what you all think!

welcome from NEPA. yeah you'll get alot of info and help here. you can read through the tech articles to see what year seats you can swap from newer truck by using your seat mounts.
POR-15 is a really great product if you brush it on it self levels so it looks like black glass when cured. you can do a search for it and there are alot of threads from people using it. should take 2 quarts to get the undercarriage and then some fully coated

Welcome Kevin!
I think your background and expertise are going to be well utilized here. The cool thing is there is an incredible knowledge pool here when it comes to these old trucks, so its pretty easy, and most welcome, to take as much or more then you give. ( Though I do try, I excel at taking more then I give )
Looking forward to pics of your truck!

Hey, a big welcome from California!
Congrats on the purchase - I did the same thing, buying my truck from photos and the owner's description. I have to say that I'm mostly happy with the truck, although it has more issues that he let on... point being, that there's no way that you can find out everything about the truck to the same level as seeing and driving it in person. Be prepared for a few disappointments, but don't let them get ya down!
This is the place to take care of all those little issues.
