73,74, or 75 dentside? Updated question 4/8/08

Post by JWW »

I want to know if anyone can tell if this dent is a 73,74, or 75. I bought the suspension and brakes off this donor. The owner thought it was a 75, but I'm unsure. I want to get the right king pins for the suspension.

Yep, it's a 73, 74 or 75, for sure!

Can you have the king pins checked upon removal to see which ones you need? The diameter changed after 74'.

Definintely, I'd just measure them once you get them out and get a definite answer.

Ask him to look at the door tag, it says right on there what year it is. 8)

Looking at the grill wont tell you much, really, the `73-`75 grills looked pretty darn similar.

I've got to go back for other items. I'll check the door for some more info. Worst case, I'll measure the kingpins once I have a machine shop press them out. Thanks for all the help.

Just a quick tip I learned when going through junkyards for ford trucks in the years when they did not put the fricking years on the vin tag.

2 places to ckeck:
In Texas they have to write the year of vehicle on the back of the window inspection sticker, I dont know about your state.

Also open up the glove box and try to find the insurace paperwork with the trucks vin and year on it, I find this helps me tremendously especially when someone has already taken the drivers side door off the truck.

Good luck!!

I don't know why I didn't check before, but I noticed on the I-beam that the part number stamped started with D5.

Is it safe to assume this was for a 1975 only? The reason I ask is that I did't know if they may have stamped a 74' model the same. I don't want to over think this, but different king pin diameters concern me.

Thanks

If you take them to a good shop, they should be able to figure it out. The guy that did mine didn't care what year they where, he said that he would use the Kit that fit right.

yes micing the king pins would be the easy way to tell what diameter they are.
