Hello from Loganville Ga.

Post by Sabbaticus »

Some of you already know me but I might as well properly introduce myself and my truck, Ol' Blue. I am 34 years old and born in 1973. My name is Dalton Sexton. In 1970 my dad's first wife purchased a 1968 f100 that was royal blue. (a really light colored blue) My dad was a mechanic and in 1971 he had a severe accident wich involved his body being the only thing keeping a 48 plymouth off of the shop floor. After some serious nerve, and kidney damage, My dad was up and moving again. The downside is the doctor gave him 10 years to live. Dad became a drinker and grew a wild streak. He took out the 360ci engine and dropped in a 428. Next he replaced the 3 on the tree with a 4 in the floor. During this time his first wife left him and he later married my mom. Dad went through 2 428's 3 390's and it is currently on it's 2nd 360. I will one day replace the 360 with a 428 once again. Due to my dad's wild streak, he beat the truck to pieces and rebuilt it many times. 10 years later, the doctor gave him 10 more years to live. He kept on drinking. He kept on playing. In 1996 the doctor told him he would outlive the doc!. Dad then quit drinking and parked the truck. By then it had become what I like to call a "Johnny Cash" truck. Rebuilt one piece at a time! It is now a 72 f100 LWB. It has 1970 f250 suspension with helper springs, 68 cab except for the driver's door, 71 grille, the engine came from a 69, and the frame, bed, fenders, and hood are 72. It had the rear end out of a 68 galaxie, but I had to replace those wore out gears when it was passed on to me in 2004. I put in the rear end out of a 71. My dad had an obvious 18 wheeler feel to the truck as he modified it through the years so I plan to play on that as I work to modify, customize, and restore to show quality. Wish me luck. Ol' Blue is no longer a truck, but a family heirloom. My dad told me in 94 that the truck would be mine one day. I would ask him yearly, "Hey dad, When can I have my truck?" He would always reply with "You ain't ready yet". One day finally came when we were sitting on the back porch and I was staring at the truck as usual. I mumbled something to myself and my dad asked, "What did you say boy!" I kinda ducked cause his tone threw me, then I replied, "I will never sell that truck!" I turned my head back to look at that shining beauty of steel muscle, and I heard a jingling coming at my head! I turned around just in time to catch the keys! Dad simply said, "I waited ten years to hear you say that!" and that is the story of my truck. It has made new roads, terrorized disrespectful drivers, Pulled out many a stuck soul out of the mud, and once had a not so good reputation in Jackson County Ga. with the local authorities! LOL. Dad had the truck lit up like an xmas tree for a reason. He always ran at night, He always had all of the lights on, unless he was up to no good! LOL. Then he would kill the auxillary lighting and no one knew it was him. I hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed reliving it. BTW, I will be painting it blue again one day! Lastly, one of my three sons will earn the honor of continuing Ol' Blue's History. Who will it be? Sean, Chris, or Jacob? Time will tell!

Welcome from Florida! I'd bet that each of our truck somewhere down the line has some good stories and memories that go with them.

Makes you feel like in on something good don't it!

Dalton,
:wel: from Florida!

Cool story for sure, (I'm kinda waiting on my 16 year old to say those words about the 71 Ranchero).

I too like that song "well it's a 53,53,55,56,57 automobile"! :drive:

Welcome, Sabbaticus, from California.

Somehow I doubt you'd get a great story like that about a Hyundai...

That truck is a member of the family, and you can expect it to be as ornery as one too. Enjoy the relationship.
