Torque

Post by 1970FordTK »

Like the topic says, what are the torque specs for the bolts holding on the steering gear box (powersteering). And the torque for the nut holding the pitman arm on. Thanks in advance guys. Main reason I ask guys, I've been known to break 1/2 and 9/16 headed bolts with 4" long box end wrenches so I want to make sure I don't put to much on them.

Actually, it's good that you include that info, since the torque values differ between 2WD and 4WD.

For your 2WD, the steering box to frame bolts should be torqued to 60-80 ft/lbs. The Pitman arm to steering box should be 170-230 ft/lbs.

Thanks Kieth, after going to every parts place in two counties here to find a heater core for a box with factory air. I've just gotten so use to spouting that out any time I deal with my bump now. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to use the no-a/c one and modify the box for it work with it. Thanks for having this website, its like having a shop manual and a serivice department to walk you through anything. :D
