Cab Removal the easy way

heres how we did it today since dad has a wrecker we just lifted it off.

Hi Fordman,

That really is the easy way. I am debating replacing my cab since the original floor is gone. It has sheet metal patches so there aren't any holes right now. I keep thinking it would be a huge job. You sure make it look easy.

i was lucky i usually just tip the cab off one side and let it fall off the frame. but thats a junk cab. i havent ever removed a good cab until now.

Here's the come along method. Don't use this method if you're keeping the cab.



Chain across the front of the bed. Come along to chain. I hooked the cable to the firewall and cranked it on.

Disconect ALL brake Lines, Electrical Lines, Front Fenders, Steering Column, 4 Cab Bolts.

Roll the windows down or remove the doors. Stick a 4x4 through the top of that cab and use and engine hoist to lift it off the frame.

Be carefull not to nock the hoist off the 4x4 or it will go through your roof!!

Max. I used a chain hoist to remove the cab on my '71. Just find a good sturdy beam or two fab something up to support the hoist, get a 2x6 4x4 sometihng heavy and thick, fab up a sling and presto redneck cab remover.

That's typically how I get things done, although most of my high school wrenching buddies have moved away now. So when the time comes...what kind of beer do you like, Steve?

Get Rhinelander for best results. Good luck finding it around here. Ask two-bit where to find it. You don't have to bribe me, just give me good warning so I can make the time. I do however like sausage pizza.
