Rust Bullet... Mikey Likey!!!

Post by coletrain777 »

I just got my rust bullet delivered and had to try it out. I had already sand blasted my bed seams so I decided to use it in them to ensure that rust is never a problem there. The instructions say to apply 1 coat (I brushed it on because I didn't want to shoot it through any of my guns), then wait 2-4 hours and put another coat on. Well I only got one coat on yesterday, but man is that stuff awesome. Today it is as hard as a rock. Rust bullet claims that they are the best rust encapsulator/prohibitor on the market, and even offer to put that claim to the test. I have used other stuff, but this rust bullet seems like the real deal. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, seems like the best stuff out there.

www.rustbullet.com

My CJ's front bumper has been treated with rust bullet (as a test for other components) and it does work good!

Are there any local distributers or do you have to get it mail order?

Thanks, Cole! I've been waiting to hear this from someone... I've been thinking of getting some Rust Bullett for my rear bumper. Got any pictures? How "shiny" is it?

Hey Mike...

That must mean we could never use the stuff in WA... EVER !!!
Not a day goes by when there isn't a threat of rain... remember August
I don't think we even got two days of sun in a row all summer.

Hey guys... Yeah the stuff is great. As far as for how shiny it is, I am sure that you could shoot some clear right over it and i would shine just like regular silver paint (and still have the rust prohibiting qualities). I am amazed at the hardness of the product, it seems to be every bit as tough as powdercoating (well, maybe not but it sure is close). I may try to shoot some out of a gun in a few days and clear it so that you can see what it would look like. I do know that when I do start on my shortbed in a month or so, I will be doing the entire chassis and suspension, underside of cab and bed, inside of bed, and inside of the cab all in rustbullet (it seems to be that good, it's really worth the money). Well that's my 2 cents... Cole

Been thinking of using the same on my frame, axle, suspension parts, brake drums, under the bed, gas tank, etc etc,

... even thought of skipping the standard issue black topcoat and just leaving it silver. I think the silver undercarriage would look good with the Boxwood Green body.

I've never used POR-15 myself, but I can tell you the rust bullet is very tough. I received a swb frame from another member here, and he had already put rustbullet over it. He had also painted it black. While moving it around alot, I've manged to bang it up a little. The black paint has come off, but the silver rust bullet coat is still intact. I've even tried sanding it in a couple of spots, and it would take forever to remove it. At most, I'm going to just scuff up the old paint and recoat it just before I rebuild. Tod (the guy I got the frame from) said it was pretty easy to do, just don't get it on yourself or your garage floor/driveway. It'll be there for a while ( I saw the drips on his drive to prove it). :D

Check this out http://www.rustbullet.com/IndTesting/NTS/NTS.htm look at the Seawater Spray test. I would consider this to be the best (worse case) test...

I just ordered some of this last week myself for a buddy of mines project and for mine!!!

So assuming you brushed it on... how well did it spread? Did you have any problems on the bumper with brush marks?

I have a couple 'uneven' colors in mine, but I did it late at night with a brush, using a can that sat for a couple months after I got it. And no top-coat. But I'm satisfied.
