I recently removed my hood from my 67. I'm planning to replace it with a hood from a 69. I'm a little confused because I read that the 67-69 hood letters are the same. See pic below from "Identifying '67-'72 Pickups":
However, the letters from my 67 match the ones at the top and the ones from the 69 match the ones from the bottom. Is it possible that the truck I got the hood off of might have had a different hood as well. The grille was a 69 and the man at the yard said it was a 69. I'm just a little confused. Any clarification would help. Thanks.
That's the first thing that gets more folks in trouble...believing that their truck's an unmolested virgin.
The '67 hood has definitely been replaced with a '70-'72 hood at some point. There's no way a factory '67 hood had the top letters in that pic.

I spoke with my grandmother and father, and they don't recollect my grandfather switching the hood. I also can't find if any holes have been filled and new ones made to allow for the bigger letters. I'll post some pics of the hood that was on the truck. Note the square hole in the middle, this is like the 68-72 pictures. Also, there are no square holes on the outer edges, only the holes for access to the side marker nuts.
Here are the pics:

i think they may have had the same mounting pins, or maybe somebody replaced the hood without your grandfathers knowledge. if he was the first owner he may have taken it to ford for a routine maintenance somtime after the 70-72 change in letter size occured.
and they may have had an accident with his hood and instead of saying something they just swapped on a hood from a newer truck.
theres just no way of telling. And most people would not have noticed they'd see it and swear their hood was different but tyhen shake it off.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

If so, they found a hood with the same Rangoon red as his.
they may have never replaced the hood but that hood looks like its had some body/paint work long ago. thats probably when they were replaced, and they WERE replaced at some point in the last 4 decades

well that is different and i am not sure what to say. it looks as if the hood was a 67 or it was made to look like a 67 anyway. those hood letters are from a newer truck. you notice that there seems what might be a screw hole on the bottom front lip of the hood? could that be where the 70 and up chrome lip was at one time
