71 F250 steering box
My steering box on my 71 4x4 is leaking worse. How hard is it to replace the seals on this? Is it a job that I can do at home, or would it be better to have a shop do this? Also, who would carry parts for this?

Steering box repairs are something I shy away from due to liability issues. Myself, I'd much rather pay someone to reseal or rebuild a box than do the work and have it bind up or break and cause an accident.

If it's the lower seal, you need to pull the pitman arm. Then it's a
piece of cake. Pull the snap ring and start it up. turn wheel back and
forth. Old seals will pop out. Grease up new ones and put in.

Uhhh... if it is a 4x4 F250 it doesn't have a lower seal.... And starting it up, even if it has PS won't do anything useful as it hase control valve PS, not integral....
What is leaking, the input shaft, the sector shaft or the cover?

Hate to tell you this...But you'll have a heck of a time finding those seals. They haven't been made for 20 years.
You might try calling a steering box repair place. I ordered some from Ford a year or so ago. They were wrong. I ended up carefully reusing the old ones.
If you do find them Please post a source for them.

I haven't checked out getting any parts yet. I just assumed someone would make a rebuild kit or something, I'll have to check around...
