Removing Steering Wheel - Stripped Threads?.... Aarrg!

Post by hmills »

Something broke inside the shift collar on my '71 F100 automatic. The shifter now moves freelly without shifting gears. I have read alot of the threads about this. I think something must have broken or come loose inside the shift collar. I am trying to remove the steering wheel with a puller but I can't seem to get puller bolts threaded into the two holes of the steering wheel. I think the threads are stripped. Anyone have any ideas?

With a little determination I was able to get the steering wheel off.

Glad you got it off ok...

You really don't need a puller to get the steering wheel off one of these...

If you take the center nut off them tread it back on a few threads.. you can literally grab the wheel on each side and wiggle it lose while pulling.
You wanna make sure to put the nut back on a little so the thing don't pop off and smack ya in the face...

take care...
