Steering Column

Post by powdld »

When I put the spring in the column first then I cant get the shift lever in far enough to get the shift tube in. The spring is in the way and won't let me center the shift lever in the column. This is for an 1970 F-250 power steering.Don

I should be able to get in a day at the shop this weekend, and I'll take some pics for you. I've got several disassembled steering columns, so I can show you how it's got to be done. IIRC you'll have to drop the spring into the column, and then use a screwdriver or something similar to compress the spring (through the slot where the shift lever goes ), enough to allow you to fully insert the shift lever.
