drag link m00000

Post by mr.skaggs »

on my 1969 f 250 2 wheel drive the parts house is asking for 6 digits with m-oooo1 or 02 where do you find such a number?and the prices range from 59.00 to 159.00 what is difference?mine has power steering and a fairly straight link any info will help ..i looked at steering parts on this site but still dont know the difference on this part thnx :?
i have a '69 f-250 camper special that im putting back to orginal condition.it is taking a long time to do but it is my hobby..this website has been of great value on looking for the correct parts and i have came across a very good way to remove rust from parts without damage to the part ..it takes time but no abrasives to wear off the numbers or castings!!

Sounds to me like the parts house was asking for the VIN. The drag link changed in late '71, so some late '71s and all '72s would have had a different part number, so they were trying to ascertain the correct year...however, it shouldn't have been an issue for them if you told them it was a '69. Here's a scan of the relevant Technical Service Bulletin (TSB):

As you can read, the change happened around July of '71, and the VIN numbers for that period were M00,000 thru M19,999.

Just make sure that you have them get you the early part (pre-'71) and you should be fine...unless you've swapped in steering components or a disc brake setup from a later model.

I have no idea on the difference. I checked Autozone's site and they both appear to be the same piece (one is $57 and the other is $95). :?

As for the choptop, again I have no idea when it's going to be done. I was really hoping to have it done by now, since it was supposed to be a winter project, completed by springtime. Needless to say I'm a little behind schedule. Check out THIS THREAD to read the updates.
