On my 67, I had the same trouble once. It turned out to be the switch. Not a bad switch it just kind of wore itself out where the pivot bolt slides through the switch and then when you push the pedal down the swicth was not centered on the flat so not enough pressure to activate the switch. I tested by inserting a thin flat tip screwdriver in between the flat and the M.cylinder rod and presto, I had brake lights. A new switch fixed it. The 67s are unique and once the shape of the switch is compromised its better to get new one. A 5 minute job and my local NAPA has the switch.

On my '67, the brakes are non self adjusting. You have to check and turn the star wheel every so often. Also, I had a problem that the engine would die every time you would turn on the lights. Traced the problem to the tail lights. Sometimes the lights wouldn't work at all, other times you could hear a "click" in the tail light area from the power shorting out just before the engine would die. I cleaned the sockets, cleaned the grounds on the tail lights, and re-wired the ends of the harness that were bad and have never had a problem since. Hope this helps.

ok yesterday i thought it was my switch went bad went out to buy a new one, (which btw autozone has a weird switch that looks totaly different from it but napa and checkers have the correct one.... we had to go up to early 80s to find one that was close in design and purpose.........) got it home and went to install it and it broke...... after investigating alittle further i notcied that the push rod going in to the master cylinder where the switch rests on is a little worn on the side with the switch. so i ordered the new one from napa and will be here tomarrow.... there is power to the lights they just aren't being pressed.....my guess is the push rod is worn and isn't pressing the switch down...... so when i put in the new one i'm going to turn it around so the other side is pushing it

Another alternative is to drop a hydraulic switch into the brake line. That's what I did on my truck when I was rebuilding the axle. It simplified my bastardized brake pedal setup.

That's the unit I used.

On my truck I just screwed the hydraulic switch into a spare port in the rear brake lines and then hooked a 12v wire to one of the terminals and hooked the brake lights to the other terminal. When you stomp on the brakes the pressure in the lines goes up, this switch senses it and allows electricity to flow across the terminals, thereby lighting your brake lights.

If you don't have a free port on the truck you would have to install a tee fitting in the lines. It's available at any auto parts store for under a dollar.
