It is a good idea, I don't see why it wouldn't work really. You may have solved some of my body problems, the PO on my '72 halfass filled most of the clip holes and I want the trim back on, with tape I could just smooth it some, paint then tape on the new trim.

I agree with ya Foghorn...

The way that the trim is designed on our bump trucks, there is an air space between the body and the trim... which may be there to allow water to pass thru so it doesn't rust.
You might try using the double sided tape and run short veritcal strips from top to bottom of the bump rather than using long horizontal ones.
That would work pretty much like the original clips.
I'd try using 3 strips ( front, middle, rear) first just to see they make any contact. Using only 3 they should come off pretty easy either way.
If it seems to work ok, you could clean both surfaces real good then apply the tape'
On projects like this, I like to start with both ends then the middle, then start spliting the distance between the tape each time until they are evenly spaced. (I was a graphic artist and sign maker for 20+ years, so I do alot of things visually rather than measuring).
Honestly, my guess is that it should work pretty well...
I would be very interested in finding out.
If you have ever mounted anything with some good 3m double sided foam tape you know that it is nearly impossible to reset it so I would make sure to have a helper to help line up one end of the trim while you do the other so it doesn't go on crooked. with the standard clips you can move the trim back and forth to center it before you tighten down the "t" bolts

Good luck, I'll be looking for a followup....

To me the center being hallow like it is, is what would make tape perfect, you can double it up or get it as thick as you want to take that space up and fit nice and snug. I wouldn't run tape the whole length, probably both ends and 1 or 2 spots in between. Bad thing is, as you said that stuff does not like to come off once it is stuck to something. I will hopefully have some practice trim to try this with after next weekend.
