Under Body Coating

Post by XLT »

What should I do to preserve the botton of my truck? I will be backing into fresh and salt water to launch a boat.

www.por15.com/
It's a coating that will dry rock hard and give your metal parts maximum protection from salt, rust, etc.

Definitely get the POR-15. Just make sure you prep well and cover all steel completely. That's some good stuff, but only as good as the prep work and application.

And any time you back into salt water, follow it up with a fresh water hose off...

Speaking of the underside of the bed, what color was it from the factory? Mine appears to be some kind of beige color. I actually like that better than black because black makes things so hard to see.

i would think the under bed might have been the body color. but it was probably black or gray or just a primer color.

The frame and all add ons were black. The rest of the entire body was white (cream) above and below.

The underside of the cab and bed was red oxide primer. Ford did not finish paint the undersides of bumpsides.

Nice job there XLT i was gonna say just dont use undercoating as it holds moisture like a sponge. The auto makers used it till they found this out the hard way. The backing in to salt water part i would most defently say a major fresh water flush job asap when ya got back home. Flush it till your blue in the face. :2cents:

Yes Foggy,

That is why I didn't use a standard undercoating. The Spectrum Firewall is a ceramic material and will repel moisture and resist soil. The car wash is a good way to get the under body washed; but, your advice to thoroughly rinse every time is an excellent idea. I am interested in keeping it nice.

The body shop said I would rust out before the truck did. Great news for a vehicle that is rust prone. :D
