I have a 1972 F-250 4x4. I put a 1976 front end under it for the disc brakes, tighter turning radius & for the power steering assist. My problem is with the power steering. I had everything rebuilt. It turns clockwise or to the right with 1 finger but to turn left it takes 2 hands. So its like I have power steering if I turn right & manual steering if I turn left. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone with any ideas??
What a great forum you have hear Kieth. Much MUCH better than FTE. They are rude to put it nicely. Keep up the good work!!!

Sounds like one of the valves in the assist part is not working right. Did you lift the front up and try turning it from lock to lock?
Should put a Sagnaw gear box in. I did, it is marvalous.

Take all that junk off and throw it away, well better yet sell it and use the money to buy and integral unit. That power assist never worked THAT good when they were new.

Just pitch all the power assist stuff and get a drag link from a non-power truck.

I have an integral 4x4 box from a 76-77 F-150. No pitman arm though. As pulled from the junkyard, I'd let it go very reasonable.

re: hydrolic ram assist power steering for the 76 - 77 F-250
I found a 75 being parted out in renton. I got another power assist system including the box for 100 bucks. I now have 3 boxes, 3 valve bodies, 2 sets of hoses, 2 rams though 1 is shot (chrome finish worn off), 2 short pitman arms and 1 long one. I have parted out 4 trucks and am an extreme parts hoarder.
now the question is if i am running a 76 DPC front end do i need to use the long pitman arm that came off of the 76 donor truck? Also i am debating if i even want the power steering. I like the feel of the manual that i had im my 70 f250 2wd. I also like how uncluttered the engine looks.
Would the box from this setup be stong enough to handle 33-35 inch tires? LMC has a manual drag link for $50 if this is all i need I will go this route until i have the extra $ for the integral kit.

You want to turn 35s with out power steering? Good workout I guess, keep your thumbs on the outside of the steering wheel. The box should be stout enough, just keep an eye on the frame where it bolts on. You might need to beef that area up.
