Powersteering conversion

Post by rs2600 »

Need help with this problem. I have a -66 F100 (sorry) with manual steering. I bought a powersteering setup from a 72 F100, or so I was told. When everything was installed the pitman arm didn't fit the steeringbox. The diameter of the outputshaft i 1 3/8 and the original shaft is 1 1/4. Looks like I probably got a setup for a F250. What do I do? There are no junkyards in Sweden with old trucks that I can get a pitmanarm that fits. I have called Mac's, NPD. Dennis Carpenter, Autocrafters with no luck. Any suggestions?

Can you post a pic of your original pitman arm? Maybe there is something else that will fit, but without a pic I won't know.

Regards,

Eric

I'm afraid pitman arm is still on the truck, will be a couple of days before I can remove it.

the size of the pitman arm changed some time i forget when. you possibly have the saginaw box from the 72. the old box is possibly a bendix manual box if i am correct. those boxes will not interchange pitman arms. as you have found out. you need the pitman arm from a mid 71 and up to put on your 72 box. i don't know how far up you can go though. alos you may have to change your tie rod stuff because that changed also. it got larger than the older stuff i think.
