66/67booster

Post by 3rdowner »

My 66 f250 has the same swinging pedal dimensions as a 67.
does anyone know if you can use a 67 booster with a 70 power disc brake m/cylinder . I presently have changed the 66 manual drum over to power discs with all the parts coming from a 70. The only major problem I have encountered is the adj. pushrod on the booster was to long. I made 1" spacers to go between the firewall and the booster brackets. Brakes work fine. but would like to get rid of spacers thus the 67 booster. Will there be enough travel to activate the 70 master cylinder properly?

If you're asking whether the '70 disc-brake master cylinder will fit on the '67 booster, I believe the answer is yes.

Normally I'd tell '67 owners to get the pedal pivot assembly from a '68-'72 truck and bolt that into their truck and then use the matching booster and master cylinder...but I have no idea if one of those will fit into your '66.

The pedal pivot on the 66 is the same as the 67. I just wanted to know if there would be enough stroke to operate the m/clyinder properly. The 68-72 boosters come out from under the dash. The 66 sits on the lip of the dash. The 68-72 might work if you cut the extra material off.
If I could use the 67 booster I could also use the 67 stop light switch.Of course the only 67 I can find here are manual no booster or I would take one off a 67 and put it on a 66 at the local pick apart. I really dont want to buy a new one to find out it want work. But I think it will

I have everything working fine. But I would still like to change to the 67 booster and get away from having spacers if possible. Since the 67 didnot have power disc I cant buy a complete setup. I read in one of the posts where some one had a 68 master bolted to a 67 booster and had problems. It sounds like it was actually the other way around.

the only thing i have heard is that it was the length of the rod from the booster to the pedal that has been the problem. ithnik all the masters are the same except for mayb ones with discs like the cs.

is there no way to shorten the rod 1"?
when i change the single pot to a dual on the 61-66s in a non-power setup, i cut the rod end off 1" and there is no other problem.
if i was able to see pics i might understand better and be able to help and i also would like to know for myself.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

he cant cut it off i have seen the pics. he just has a round rod with a adjustable rod end on it. if it was a flat rod yes re could cut it off and redrill it to fit the 66 lenght. no that is a good idea you gave me iceman. thank you.

The 66 has the same distance from the firewall to pedal rod hookup
as the 67 and the i believe the same bolt pattern on the firewal. Since I know that be true it should work using the 67 booster I am just concerned about travel of the rod to properly activate the master.
The rod as it is now is an adjustable unit. It just doesnt have near enough adjustment. If the 67 booster will work it will allow 66 and 67 to have power disc brakes with all factory parts no modifications.

You can cut off round rods with no problem. You would just need to cut threads onto the rod and get a heim joint rod end. Thats what i did for some custom sway bar endlinks on one of my cars. I dont know if it would work for this, but i wouldnt see why not.

Thats a good idea I would have to look and make sure my rod is solid and not hollow. I know part of the rod is hollow as the mail end screws into it.

Thanks for the idea.
