power steering pump question

Post by GT-Racer »

are all power steering pump pressures relatively the same? i have heard that chevy and ford are different pressures. reason I as is that I will be using the ford pump on my motor with the chevy box on my frames and I wondered if it was as easy as matching up the lines or more complicated.
And if the pressures ARE different would not under drive puleys etc effect these pressures?

I've never heard of anyone having problems with mixing and matching pumps and boxes. AFAIK you can use the Ford pump with the Ch*vy box or vice versa...but I'll keep trying to dig up any related info.

The saginaw pumps run a slightly higher pressure, but it has no ill effects on any other components. Too low of pressure is a bigger concern than too high. Ford pumps are not so great in my opinion.

Ford and GM run between 900 to 1200 psi. That's deadheaded, not
working pressure. Average working psi is 500 and up. 8)
