8 lug rims

Post by Heavenlyfire »

I was just wondering about the spacing of the lugs. I know that the 5 lug wheels have different sizes but do the 8 lug as well. If so, what is the newest year that will fit our trucks.

Lug nuts should be still 1/2-20, at least thats what they are on my 71 F-250. One thing I did learn is that a standard Chevy steel 8-lug wheel will not work on the rear of a Ford. Bolt pattern is the same, but center hole will not clear the axle.

A 8 lug F350 is 9/16-18. A 8 lug 250 is 1/2-20

You can use Dodge and Ford wheels on the truck. The axle registration hole is the same GM used a Dana 60 where we used a 70 when they first went to 1 tons. So the GM rims won't fit. 250 and 350 use the same rims. If you bought long studs for the rear you could dually the 250 by using 350 dually rims.

Ford rims with a slot instead of a hole need Nuts with washers called swivel nuts in order to hold the slotted hole wheels correctly.

The lug nuts 9/16-18 use a 1-1/16 socket.

Technically '97 is the newest that will fit as long is they are from F250 or F350 HD's, Ford made a F250LD but it only has 7 lugs so not easy to mix up.

You can find nice 10-12 hole rims on ebay for under $400 shipped from Eagle, I got a set of 17x9's for around $380 shipped.

'97 F150 (heavily modded 5.4L)
'48 F1 (Flat 6)
'51 F3 (Flat V8 )
'56 F350 (engineless)

Dodge will fit...Sort of...Most have a slightly
bigger lug size than ford, and the lug nuts
won't seat exactly right.. They will work though.
I've had a pair of dodge wheels on the back
of mine for quite a while, and no problems so
far.
But...If I had a choice, I would much prefer ford
wheels if at all possible. They have smaller lug
holes, and the nuts will fit and seat better.

Actually Dodge and Ford use the same lug nuts and studs if the axle is the same so I don't see why they would have a problem. I have a dog rim and it works better than the slotted Ford rims.

Dunno, the ones I have have bigger holes than
the stock ford rims I have. Not sure what size
axle the dodge had, but I assume a 3/4 ton,
being an 8 lug wheel. I don't think my ford wheels
have slots. They are "old" style, matching the
truck, not off a newer 90's ford.

My slotted rims use the Swivel nut and came off an 86 E350 Cargo conversion.

That weird hole is from late 90s and the 20s. I reject them as it fits the Dana 80 and 70 but was designed for the 80

you can use the 1/2 ton dodge wheel on the ford, but the ford wheel is too tight for the dodge and may get stuck on the center hole.
one of my girlfriends got a flat driving the 70s dodge van i had at the time, i went to change it and it would not come off, i drove 4 miles home on dirt roads with no lug nuts , it still did not come off, next day i got out the sledge and really had to smack it to get it off.saw the ford marking, so then i knew why it was stuck.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.
