I'm thinking about buying another truck since I declared my last project one a loss and I was wondering if I could do this:
The top of the bed rails are absolutely smashed so I was wondering if I could cut along the seam of the bump and cut these off, cut a set off another bed I have that has rust issues on the bottom and weld them in place, that way I would have a nice bed and I would have taken care of the seam problem.
Can it be done

Sounds like a good idea. Have wondered the same thing.

The bottom panel can be done that way. The top rail and the inter bed liner is all one piece of sheet metal, if you cut thru the seam you would still have to cut the inter liner inside the bed. It would be easier to cut it right above the seam. That is probably the easiest metal to weld and work on our trucks, because it is the heavyest metal on them.

re: Can it be done
Well the reason I asked is the one truck has the toolbox in the bex and it doesn't have any rust like most of them do.

re: Can it be done
i think its a lot of work that while could be done is very time consuming.myself i would try to find a good bed and install the toolbox in it.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.
