Concerning por15
Is it necessary to use the metal ready product that por15.com recommends before applying por15 to a rusted surface?

re: Concerning por15
But you have a have a spray gun, large air compressor and all the equipment (and in a clean environment) to use that. Plus you have to clean all the rust off first, usually by sanding or sandblasting. That's the beauty of POR-15...the only prep equipment required is a wire-brush (to clean off flaky rust and paint) and some MetalReady, to give the surface an etch, which allows the POR-15 to stick. The only application equipment needed is a brush or roller, ...and finally, there's virtually no clean-up. You simply toss the brush/roller in the trash when you're done.
For someone working at home, in a driveway or small garage with limited tools and equipment, this is the best route IMO. You can get a 6-pack of quart cans of POR-15 for less than $50...and you can do an entire frame of a truck using maybe a quart, if even that.

POR 15 is well worth the money.do it by the directions and it turns out great.not only have i used the black for the frame but the thick grey stuff on the floors of the cab with some fiberglass mat makes strong patches.
also used the hardnose paint on the firewall, kickpanels and stepwells of my 66 4x4.
all done with a brush, its free flowing so you get no brush marks.
save your brush, after the por hardens it turns into a chisel.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

re: Concerning por15
Would anyone recommend against using por15 on the whole body of a truck?

You could do it, but you would have to top coat the POR-15 while it was still tacky, or use POR-15's tie coat primer. POR-15 is sensitive to UV rays, so if left untopcoated it will turn chalky.
The silver POR-15 will not prodiuce a perfectly smooth surface.
You could use POR-15 to paint a truck, but it would be a lot of work.

re: Concerning por15
if you use their hardnose paint you can paint the whole truck.its 2 parts , color and hardener.i have been stepping on it with dirty feet for a couple years and it has not changed, but its very slippery so i have to be careful if my feet or the stepwells are wet.
i really did not think the expense was that bad and i had to pay the shipping up here.i know for all i bought it was less than $200, and that was 2 separate orders.
i know a guy from Kodiak, way down where the salt water spray from the wind rusts things pdq, he told me they love the POR15 there.they use it on anything metal they want to keep outdoors.

If I were to do it, it would be a sectional process and I would put a primer over it.flyboy2610 wrote:You could do it, but you would have to top coat the POR-15 while it was still tacky, or use POR-15's tie coat primer. POR-15 is sensitive to UV rays, so if left untopcoated it will turn chalky.
