Anybody know what steering boxes are compatible, or have compatible guts, for the 72 F-100 4x4 steering box?
Mine is shot, and I'm having a heck of a time finding one.
I found one manual box (I know it came off of a Ford truck, not sure what year, model, etc., though), it looks the same as mine, except for a different mounting bolt pattern. One guy told me that it wasn't compatible, but anybody know for sure?
Thanks,
John

the f100 4x4 box is different .
there is a place that sells them rebuilt on ebay $275.
my wifes 66 f100 4x4 is needing one too, i have contacted a couple buyers from this source and they were all happy.
we will be getting one as soon as we have the extra $

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

I haven't rebuilt an F-100 4x4 box, but I have worked on many other manual boxes and they're fairly simple inside. The factory ford shop manuals are very clear on how to go about replacing the bearings and adjusting them. Most boxes I fool with just need one or two bearings replaced and they're back in top shape. A word of caution though, make sure the seals are available before you tear the old ones up, some box seals, especially the ross highboy steering box have seals that haven't been made in 20 years and are VERY hard to get ahold of. You can rebuild the box and reuse the old seals though.
