Difference between '72 and'74 Bed

Post by 72f100 »

Is there any difference between a '72 and'74 bed? I want to get a rubber bed mat, but I can only seem to find the custom pattern as far back as '74. Would it work, or would I be better off getting the universal package and cutting it myself?

it will be differnt in the fact of how the 74 wheel wells in the bed slope. the 72 bed is squared off when it comes to the wheel wells.

does that affect the pan (is there an actual term?) dimensions? If i bought a mat custom fit to a '74 will it be too small, or would I need to trim it?

I can't say for sure how it would fit side-to-side, because of the differences in how the dentside floor is rounded in the corners, but you'd at least have to trim the length, as the '73-up beds are several inches longer.

i think that since the wheel wells in the 74 are sloped you might be to short between the wells.

I tried comparing parts numbers for the pan and front piece, they have the same root number but different suffixes. I think it is the NPD catalog that shows a good pic of each and they do look a bit different.

Where does that several inches longer come from, Keith, on the 73-up beds? Last time I measured a 74 and a 68 side by side the outer boxsides were the same length. These were long boxes. Haven't yet had opportunity to measure short flaresides or stylesides.
