The entire grille assembly will interchange (shell and inserts), but the '71 inserts won't fit a '70 shell. As fordman stated, all '70-'72 headlight doors are the same.

hmmmmmm then i wonder how my dad change his inserts from a 70 to a 71? We had a customer whose truck was a 70 and they only had the 71 in stock at the time so dad took his out and used the 71 on his truck. I don't think he changed the shell but he might have. I did the same thing for a chrome moulding on a ranchero back in 73. Took the moulding off of my car to finish the customers car so they didn't have to come back.

Well, maybe I should be a little more clear. The '71-'72 inserts will physically fit into the openings of the '70 shell, but since the '70 inserts are thin, the thicker '71-'72 inserts won't fit flush with the shell and will stick out. And attaching the '71-'72 inserts will also take some work, as many of the mounting tabs are in different locations.

So....with some creative engineering you can make them fit, but IMO it's more trouble than it's worth and the end result won't look good.

How about '70 inserts in a '71 shell? That's what I meant to ask.
