I am removing my 67 closed knuckle front axle w/drums and replacing it with a 78 w/disc brakes. At the same time I have a 4 bolt power steering box and pump I will install.
I am following the instructions laid out on the site, but I have a question.
The tards that dragged the 78 front end from under the doner truck hooked onto the tie rod and tweeked it beyond repair. Can I use the 67 tie rod? They both measure out about 57"

I don't think you can. I believe the ball joint ends are different between those years. I'm pretty sure the taper is different.

Yes, I think I remember now about the taper. Oh well, I will replace it. However I have another problem.
With the 4 bolt steering box, I dont see how my radiator will fit. Also the frame rails have a turned up lip that I think I will have to shave off. If I remember right, the 78 had an offset front crossmember. I have to get this done before Elk season, I'm freaking.

To do the 78-79 PS conversion you will have to cut into your front crossmember so that the box is right up next to your radiator. If you choose to box it in or not is your choice. I have some pics of the conversions step by step if you want me to email them to you let me know. Also on the tierod I might have an extra laying around. I did the 2wd box in my 4x4 crew with no problems yet.

Made my frame cutouts and box plates tonight. It is going to be a tight fit. Scalloped the crossmember and fabbed cutout box. I will figure how to post pics tomorrow. I have a photo bucket account, I may use that.
