Body mount rubber?

Post by zakt »

when getting new rubber for the body mounts does that come with the metal pieces that sandwich it? Also any trick to getting those metal pieces off without damage if they dont come new with the rubber? Also who has the best?

Thanx

i think they do come with the metal pieces. but if not the metal things washers do come off pretty easy. at least the ones i've seen do.

I ended up destroying mine on removal and made my own new sleeves with a set from james duff bronco from an EB had to weld the washers to the sleeves and they still don't mash together like the originals. My new body mounts didn't come with any hardware (prothane). But i haven't had any problems with them at all and they don't sag like the OEM rubber. here is a diagram on proper removal of the original sleeves. THe OEM replacments usually come with hardware but not original stuff. Jeffs bronco graveyard sells new sleeve parts seperately for a nice penny.

yikes looked at the price at the bronco graveyard $33 a piece for the metal sleeves... I flooded mine with liguid wrench and just tried one pound on it so far and it wont budge... I think it will take some messing with to get them apart....

I'll try what is on your attachment with the bolt from the bottom then hit that with a punch, should work ....where did you get the prothane mounts from then, also did you have to put higher pieces of rubber on the center pieces on the crew cab for that to rest on?

I got my prothanes through JC whitney and for the center mount I acually spaced they were there until my front prothane mounts went through the metal cab mounts. I have some conveyor belting that I was going to cut for them now though. So on the 68 cab I will be rplacing my 70 with I'll have them in there. I got my radiator mount sleeves from the junkyard, they came out easy but the cabs I had to improvise because the ones on that truck wouldn't come out and I was planning on making my own anyways.

Here's a comparison picture I took comparing the stock vs. the LMC version of the front bushings. The LMC version is just a long bolt with a sleeve, some large flat washers and a Nylox nut. The bushings themselves are good though. I chose against installing these on my truck though, ended up reusing a good set I got from a low-mileage parts truck.

I got the rear cab ones off ended up using a socket and pounding on that. The bottom metal has a locking deal so ended up ripping out of the top piece. They rear top meal is also all bent up so looks like I will need some new pieces anyway... the front ones I will have to probably cut off pound on them for a while and nothing... I thought I remeber seeing a thread on LMC having something wrong with them?

Summit Racing has Energy Susp poly mount kits that come with washers, sleeves, and urethane bushings, I think for around $60.

This one is listed as a super cab but it's a 4 door. The floors are the same from 67-79 and i remember my body mounts were for a 67-79 f250 reg cab and they worked fine. I don't see any reason for diffrent applications but they have em.

Just a side note, summit has a "my garage" and you can add whatever to it, so you can add whatever you want and not hafta search for it every time...It's pretty cool

OK I'm wondering now the Skyjacker (overpriced set) is good for 2wd and 4wd applications and the prothanes and energy are 2wd/4wd specific. I know mounting points change on the rear cab mounts from inside the frame rails on the 2wd to outside on the 4x4's but are the bushings different thicknesses? :hmm:

I add stuff to my garage so my GF can log in and see what I have my eyes on and it makes it easy for her to pick out gifts for holidays without asking what I might want. :D

I thought i had read on Summits site or elsware that the Prothane ones came with a built in metal sleeve?

Did i read it wrong? If so could you not cut or melt the rubber off and then break it apart in a vice?
