Ok, I know this isn't a question thought about with a 4x4...and I'm no suspension expert, so thought I'd ask.
I have been kicking around project car ideas, and recently stumbled across a car I've always wanted to tinker with. It's a 69 Edsel Villager Wagon. I've always thought it would be cool to mount one on a 4x4 chassis, and making a retro suv/wagon. The thing is, I don't want it to sit as high as a fullsize truck, I'd like it to be proportion wise to an Explorer. I want to do it in a way that it would look factory, and not like the hack and chop jobs you generally see done when something like this happens.
At this point, I'd use an F150 chassis, as the wheelbases/widths are nearly perfect for the swap...I just don't want it at that F150 height.
Ideas?

Although not a good idea, you could cut a coil off the front springs, or heat them so they lose some of there strength and that'll drop it some (but heat makes them brittle), then remove the block and overload leaf from the rear. Or if you wanted it real low flip the rear leaves under the axle.
Is it a pre-79 or 80's and up? The TTB would make the tops of the tires lean in if you trimmed just the coils.
Would 2 wheel drive coils work?

A 72 F-250 Hi-Boy "project" ( that means sitting untouched for 3 or so years)
And a little 94 F-150 Flareside, 7" higher and 35's...
