automatic overdrive
I would like to have an auto for my 390 engine but I would like it to be an overdrive version. Is there such a beast or something that I could make work? I have a 4 speed overdrive unit but I am tired of changing gears. I know I could install a C6 and then an aftermarket O/D unit after that but that is getting pretty long and I'm not sure how that would do on the pinion angle. What are you guys doing that have O/D's?
Thanks
Scott

Ok, you will need to buy an adaptor: http://www.transmissionadaptors.com/ford_fe.htm
And then use a BUILT UP AOD or an E4OD with an electronic trans controller

The E4OD is garbage stay away from it.
I don't have any experience with the AOD, from what I've read it's rather light duty, but it seems to be the preferred choice of the OD trannies.
If it was me and I had the coinage I'd stick with the C-6 and put a Gear Venders or a similar overdrive unit behind it.

My '92 F-350 has the E4OD behind the 7.3 diesel. That tranny is a turd and from all the research I've done on them since I bought the truck I found that they pretty much all are. 120K seems to be the average life of them, some even died @ 15K. A few people reported 200K+ but they weren't the norm. When mine dies I will upgrade to a c-6 or a manual if I decide to keep the truck. I never would have bought the rig had I known about the E4OD.
