Brake indicator light not lighting up
I have a small indicator light on the bottom left side of my dash right above the E-brake release. It says BRAKE in the middle. I cannot find this in my manual ANYWHERE, but I assume that this is an E-brake "Engaged" signal light. Problem is that it does not come on when the Truck is on and the Ebrake is on. And yes - I have checked that the bulb is still good.
Any Ideas?

It doesn't come on to indicate E-brake application. It signals when you have a malfunction in one side of your brake system. It's connected to a switch in your brake system distribution block.

Correct. It has nothing at all to do with the e-brake, it's just coincidentally mounted down there.

re: Brake indicator light not lighting up
This is a common misconception about this light. It's not an E-brake indicator. It's a warning light that indicates either your front brakes or back brakes have lost pressure. It's controlled by a brake differential valve. The light should flash on when you start the truck but should otherwise be off. I'd post a photo of the diff valve but we're still hobbled.I assume that this is an E-brake "Engaged" signal light.

You got a broken wire, bad connection or it's unplugged from the switch.
The light should of came on after all the work you've done on the brakes.
When working properly, the light comes on during the prove-out in the "start" position.

re: Brake indicator light not lighting up
Once again - You guys are great! Well, with the brake problems Im still having, I certainly do not need a light to remind me! Does any one know where you can get an entire manual system replacement? I of course can build it all from the local autoparts store, but Im thinking that replacing the entire system with a Kit that replaces ALL of the Hydraulic aspect of it.
I am looking for something for a 68 manual 4-drum system. I am not interested in going to Disks yet - unless the kit is cheeper of course!

Re: re: Brake indicator light not lighting up
I just rebuilt my entire front end except for shocks and springs. I mean everything and just the brakes, drums, wheel cylinders and hardware kits cost me about 160 a side on my F350. Wheel studs and nuts included.slucent wrote:Does any one know where you can get an entire manual system replacement?
