I know this is totally out of our year vintage, however I hope one of you can help me. I have a 1995 F350 crewcab dually automatic and I was hauling a tractor With Overdrive off and when I got to my destination there was transmission fluid all over the ground. I checked the Fluid and there was nothing in it. I PARKED IT RIGHT THERE! and thats where it still sits. The thing that gits me is it was still driving normal. do you think something broke in there and out went the fluid. It always shifted hard from 3rd to 4th. And the transmission was rebuilt by ford 2 years ago. But the warranty is out on it. If you think its shot is there a heavyer duty one I can put in there.
Thanks. Big John

re: The transmission leaks like a Water hose!!!
i dont know anything about newer trucks, but it sounds to me like, maybe there's bad tranny line. (the tranny lines that go to the radiator that cools the fluid down). i know that in some trucks i've seen there are sometimes tranny fluid low/overheated lights on the dash.
maybe you could put some tranny fluid in it and try to penpoint the spot that it's leaking from for us?
i know there's some guys on here with trucks just like yours, i am unsure of what transmission you have, maybe an AODE or C6. C6's are easy to rebuild.

When a trans gets hot the fluid will literaly boil out of the trans. It is possible that the trans just got real hot towing and that caused it. Check the fluid level and think about a trans cooler for towing. As hot as it has been the one in the radiator prob doesn't do good a very good job for you.

He has a E4OD/4R100.
Probably a trans cooler line. That or the front pump seal died on him... Get some fluid in it and start it to see where it's going. Also, there is not much stronger than those. They are the Overdrive&lockup version of a C6.

re: The transmission leaks like a Water hose!!!
Had the same problem in my Cherokee. I had a leaky cooler line and a buddy (who owns a garage) replaced it for me. Half way home from Florida I looked in the rear view mirror and saw smoke. I immediately pulled over and got under the truck to see the line had come lose from the trany. I called my buddy and he told me that it is a press in fitting?! So I just gave it a shove back in trying not to get burned. It has been fine since and it has been 2 years. So hopefully it is just a lose line, or like what was mentioned already, it boiled out and will be an inexpensive fix.

The exact same thing happened to a buddy of mine with his Aerostar Van. Smoked like hell climbing Vail pass and when he pulled over trans fluid was dripping from everywhere. Turned out to be a fluid line that came loose. That was it.

is you fluid turning brownish, or starting to burn? the newer trans are notorious for this.
I have done something like this before, what happened was the load I was hauling was so heavy, that the torc converter over heated and it blue oil out the vent on top of the trans. So I top it back up. It work ok ish after that but about 4mo down the road it pack it in. and when I removed it you could see the converter was cooked, you should look in to this, if you removed you inspection cover my bet is you converter will have a blue line going all the way around her. if so you got to start thinking about future repair bills.
as for a heavy duty trans your truck should all ready have it. What engine dose it have?

GET A TRANS COOLER or if you have one, get a bigger one. That trans gets HOT and NEEDS a cooler! Heat is the enemy of transmissions and their internal parts.
