shifter removal
anyone know how to remove the shifter on a 4 speed granny trans?

If I'm thinking of the correct tranny, that cone at the top of the transmission cover unscrews, use channel locks or a pipe wrench.

thanx, I was wonderin if that was possible, my tranny is the one were reverse is away and down.

Don't you push down and turn the cap just with a firm grip? I has 2 keeper pins that it is held in by spring pressure or something It's been a while.

Yep, that looks correct. I might be thinking about a different tranny. What I'm thinking about is where the tope cone is a thin steel cover that has four straight edges to grip, but it's not really square.

I'm probably remembering the later one as my '79 was the last T-18 I've worked with.

mine is the newer one, w/the cap on the inside, is that the one u push in causechannel locks don't grip it and it cannot b pried up

If your reverse is away and down I think you have a NP435 wich will have a stamped steel ring with a cam lock just as you said push down and turn
But all the T18's I have seen reverse is over and up so I think you have a 435

Think ur right again highboy' however I have a 65 f250 w/the granny low over and down and it has the pry off cap around the shifter, what tranny might that b
