They're correct, lowering shackles won't work with the Flex-o-matic setup. In addition to needing straight shackles, you'll also need the matching springs, since Flex-o-matic springs are a different length than standard springs.

To my understanding there just a haevy duty type for carring heavy loads. This really sucks big time, should have researched before I jumped into the hard work. I guess I'll have to find another type of spring. How about the axle flipp kit with some blocks to reduce the lowering an inch. I am only looking for 2-3 drop someone help.

They are supposed to improve the ride with light loads.

Flipping the axel should work fine.

with an axle flip, adding blocks will just make it even lower, and i think if you move the front hanger it will throw the pinion to far off,i think your only solution would be to change the springs or just slam it!

It would entail some fab, but why not move the rear shackle mount forward to match the spring length and then use the lowering shackle? :dk:

Ah yes, it was early and I didn't catch the part about the blocks.

If you flip the axel, what you end up with will be as high as it can get, blocks will only lower it more.

You could try contacting a spring shop to see if they can de arch your springs a bit, but I would be surprised if it cost much less than new springs.

Is it possible to change the flex-o-matic springs tio the non flex-o-matic style with just changing the shackles and the springs?

No, the mounts are the same...if we're talking about the ones riveted to the frame on each end. It's the springs and shackles that must be a matched set. You can't intermix Flex-o-matic parts with a standard shackle setup, and vice versa. My '67 originally had the straight shackles, but I installed the Flex-o-matic setup and springs from a '68, and they bolted right up.

If you spent all that time and money I would just spend a little extra and flip the rear axle, notch the frame and call it good. This is what I did to mine. If you go this route though make sure you relocate the shock mounts other wise they will hit the axle housing.

Good luck.
If at first you don't succeed. Get another beer.
