Mequiers Clay Bar

So... I wondered off to a latemodel mustang forum and visited a "Show and Shine" section. A few guys in there were talking about a Meguiers Clay bar and how awesome it was as far as making to paint look like new again. What the heck is a clay bar for automobile paint? I've never heard of this, but from looking at the before and after pics, it may be something to consider. Anyone ever used one?

its exaclty what the name says haha, its just a bar of clay, special mad ei believe, but thats justwhat it is. it grabs the impurities off the clear. dirt/grime all that good stuff. worth the investment imo.

If you don't mind me asking, about how much could I expect to pay for the Mother's version? Would you use the clay when the truck is wet or dry? I think I'm gonna get me one..or two. How many bars would it take to do a SWB bumpside?

YOu have to do it wet. Wash the truck, then take it home ( or wash at home) Then you spary either the detailer or a saop/water mix on the spot you are rubbing. It always has to be wet or the clay will just smear on the paint. After you clay it you need to put a few coats of wax on. You'll be amazed how good it will make the paint look. I have even done it to my Galaxie but any vehicle without a clear the paint will rub off a bit, nothng major but my bar was a bit blue after doing the Gal. The mothers kit used to be sold at Walmart but I am not sure if it s anymore, advanced Auto also has it and Auto Zone has another name brand.

A tip when you start is to cut the clay in half, because if you drop it in the dirt you cannot use it again or you will scratch your paint. So cut it in half and when you drop it you still have some to finish the vehicle with.

Also when you are doing it it is very obvious when you have clayed it enough you can feel the roughness in the paint and it will go away and be silky smooth after being clayed long enough. I was very suspicious of it for quite a while but finally used it and loved it.
