Rear Brakes Dana

Post by SixManCab »

When reassembling the rear brakes on my Dana rear, how tight do I torque down the big nut, and (stupid question) do I need a special socket? I removed them with a hammer and screw driver (which is what the PO had done).

Pounce I love this one

With the socket which by the way looks like a 6 sided ring with a bar across it. Well we didn't use that tool at Ford either. Just a hammer and chisel. With the brakes backed off spin the wheel and tighten then loosen then tighten them aogain a couple of times. Spin the rim with an inch lb torque wrench and tighten until you get about 50 inlbs of torque to spin from one of the lub nuts.

i used a socket for the automatic front hubs of a 92 ford explorer, it fits the rear of a dana 60 perfectly. the hammer and chissel ruins the nut. you can get the sockets at any parts store

I think the socket is much easier and quicker for the $20.
