Fatman bolt on mustang II kit

Post by fuzzier1 »

I just got off the phone with Fatmans and they told me the bolt on Mustang II kit is available and they have shipped a half dozen of them already. Price for a stage II hub-to-hub w/coil over springs runs $24?? and a stage V w/airbags $34??. I may still go with the weld on frontend?! Thought some of you might want to know.

just to let you know fatmans is fill of crap at times. i order my mine and they took like a month to get it. i was told it would be ship asap, after two weeks i found out the still needed to make it. my buddy has a fab shop and has had other problems with the screwing things up. they make nice stuff but will do anything to sell you somthing. i would do the weld on.

Now that I know how a MII looks like, I will be building them for any car I may want to put it on.
I am starting a new project in the next few months, it's a 40's Ford it will have a new frame with the MII
bagged and we will be tucking the biggest and widest wheels possible in the rear like 22's or 24's and yes it will be planted on the ground.
This car will be the shops grocery getter.

I've been toying with the idea of an MII for my '69. All the applications I see are for the older trucks...Is there that big a diff between say a '54, '64 and a '69 between the frame rails?

Don't know what the difference in measurements are but the only company I have seen that has MII frontends for our trucks is Fatmans. That is not to say someone else doesn't have them, just I haven't found them. You can find Fatmans at http://www.fatmanfab.com/ .
Hope this helps.

Guys I am a street rod builder and have been for almost 8 years here in Texas. The shop that I work for is a dealer for Heidts' and TCI. They both have a universal kit that I have used on cars that aren't the normal for the street rod world. It comes un-nothed so that it can be fit to just about anything. The main thing you need to know when you talk to someone about MII kits is what is your stock track width. Get this measurement from the side to side measurement on the rotor where the wheel bolts to. Don't let anyone tell you that you can use anything. If anyone needs any info let me know. I will help if I can.

mercman, i also work at a streetrod shop in nw tenn and you are right about heidts stuff. they make some good parts, much better than fatmans in my opinon. he is a big bag of wind. we are a dealer for heidts also and have used a lot of their stuff.

I agree with you the guys on the H.A.M.B. must be jumping their stuff or they just can't weld very good. I put a progressive MII under a 53 caddy years ago and the guys drives the wheels off it. I am not knocking fatmans stuff I just like Heidt's stuff better. Fatman makes more kits. I would use a good MII kit under anything. I also agree you don't need all the tubular arms to be cool. My 66 fairlane wagon is going to use stock uppers with tubular steel lowers just eliminate the strut rod.

theres no way the fatmans crossmember is going to crack. its alot thicker then my f-350 frame. the only place it would crack is someone's welds.
mine is tig on. i would not use stock control arms unless you box them in and not the lowers because of the strut rod.

Is anyone familiar with No Limit Engineering? They have a nice looking IFS based on the the camaro spindle... supposed to be beefier. I want to go IFS but not a lot of clear options for 67's and up.

Here's their product...

there just tying to sell you somthing you don't need. mustang 2 spindles can take the same size rotor. the nice thing with staying with that is you can get it at any autozone and it has the ford smal bolt pattern. you have to use a braket tha moves the caliper out but they don't cost that much and pretty nice. that kit is a mustang 2 with camaro spindles.

Can I jump in? My father-inlaw and I went to get pads for his '56 F100 with a heidts MII IFS. He wasn't sure what year to ask for. It would be easier to just know what to ask for. The guy at Napa was asking, "6 or 8 cylinder, Auto or standard..." What is the answer? Exactly what pads are used?
