The manual steering box pitman arm won't fit the Ford power steering box. The splined hole in the manual pitman arm is too small.

I think I know what i'm gonna do, I went on www.carsteering.com and they have a conversion kit which includes the box,pump,coupler,hoses,pully...everything except the correct column. It runs 495.00. I think i'm goingto buy that and then get another column. what do you all think, heres the link

I wasn't aware of the overheating problem with the bendix box. I just had mine rebuilt to fix the leaking. Would putting a small tranny cooler in the return line help at all, or is there some reason I shouldn't do that?

yes the newer trucks had a power steerign cooler in line withhtem. they bolted to the front of the power steering pump brackt. that may help it from overheating.

So what are the symptoms/problems that the overheating causes with the bendix box?

i've never experience this. i did have a pump freeze up once on mine. but when i took it apart it became unfrozen. i never got around to putting it back on before i stopped driving the truck. but the box worked fine without the pump on it. it was harder to turn without the pump.

didn't ford change the steering linkage and pitman arm in 71, so he would need matching combo because the bendix only fit pre 71 asuming this he has a pre 71 steering linkage.
