pshhh like id go anywhere without the camera
ill get pics. im going into work tomorrow at 10, i MIGHT be able to get the leaf out before then.
but i just thought... im going to have to loosen the u-bolts quite a bit, and im going to have to remove the center bolt a ways... then remove the leaf, then put the partial leaf back in, retighten the u bolts and center bolt... isnt this going to just be like taking the ubolts off? would i need new ones? i dont want to have to spend money on them yet
I wouldn't even loosen the bolts, if you undo the shocks and jack it up under the frame, the leafs will spread even more then if they were out of the truck because of the axle weight pulling down, and just nip them off right where they are, you could even drive in a wedge if you wanted more room

you say they will spread enough to get a leaf out, but how will they do this with the ubolts clamping the leaf packs solid with the axle
A visual aid may help, just cut the ends off and leave the left over center part still clamped in, when you jack up the truck on the frame the bottom leaf will stay straight and the others will arch then if you torch from the side, close to where the u bolts are clamped, most of the leaf will be gone and wont be anything but a spacer then. So all you would need to do is undo the shocks so the springs can arch more jack it under the frame and fire up the torch
oh, im talking about getting the bottom leaf out of there and take it down to the shop. the 71 wont start right now. i think its just since i redid the fuel lines that they are dry. but id like to just take the leaves down there. i guess we can take the whole truck if we have to
As mentioned earlier, you'd have to get new u bolts if you can even get them off with out cutting them, I don't even try to unbolt them anymore, I just cut 'em
on the track we will be going max 40 mph. prerunning a 300 mile race course we will be going 35 mph MAX due to the rules. and we wont be getting hang time in this either
im wondering if i should take the leaf out and bring them to the shop and torch them at 45 deg. angles and put em back in. like i said the u-bolts came off easily on the 69. should be just as easy on the 71. i think ill take them out tomorrow... unless someone screams at me right now
im going to try to get it down to the welding shop i just cant think of when that would happen since i cant drive ( ). maybe once the 429 is in my dad can drive it down after work. we'll see
