coilover rear suspension...

Post by layedout72 »

Do you guys have any pictures of some hot rods or the like with custom coil over suspensions? With the frame being such a hard build, I figure I can get a really mean stance with just coilovers out back, maybe a leaf/coilover combo? For whatever reason I can't find many pics of how they are installed in custom applications. Is it simply get it at the ride heigh i want, measure out the 4 link, and get coilovers made/find some at that height from another car? Do they mount from frame to axle? Do you run a bridge across to mount them? Certain angle that works best? Vertical best? Post any pictures you have PLEASE.

Also, on the front, how low can you go without camber being a big issue. A little camber isn't terrible, maybe a couple degrees, but I dont want the outside of my tire off the ground ya know? Im hoping with it not needing a full frame I can do this easier in my garage, and have the bed at my grandmas house while I work on it.

Coil overs are mainly for slammed vehicles that need extra suspension aid. Imports and motorcycles, how much are you planning to lower it. I am in the process of lowering my truck three inches and adding gas shocks to give it a smooth ride.

i would put the shock crossmember at the top portion of the frame rail. Gets you lower. If you put it just to the frame you are limited on ride height. also get the adjustable upper brackets. Front to rear can be 2 degrees back.

Have seen side to side at 10 degrees inward. i run mine straight up front to rear and 5 degrees inward.

12 inch around 200 pound spring rate should be about right. Chris alston chassisworks has some decent priced mounts and shocks. I think jegs and summit carry some to. (competition engineering is there brand).

I have pics, but mine are installed on a custom rear frame.

when you say shock crosmember, u mean running a bridge side to side like on a notched truck right? where you could run your upper bag plates and all for an "over axle" setup. If so, thats sorta what I figured I would do. I want to get a good low stance, HOPDFULLY tuckin a couple inches of wheel outback, and up front. Also when you say "mount the shock" u mean the whole coilover system.....right?

How low can you get up front without TOO much camber.
