Frame Shortening

Post by tod-hog »

This may seem goofy so afford me the benefit of the doubt: Can a LWB frame be shortened and re-welded to SWB specs with relative ease? Obviously, the frame would have to be reinforced, perhaps the rails boxed in select spots?

I shortened my frame by cutting the ends and drilling new holes for the bed but I replaced the leaf springs with a 4 link setup so I didn't have to worry about the leaf mounting points. The way to do it would be to cut the amount you want to shorten your truck and reweld it back together by adding some boxing plates, don't forget to brace the frame before you cut it, this way everything stays square.
