shocks?

Post by 19674x4 »

iv'e been eying my shocks and noticed they are getting prety worn out. on the front ones they have the double pins- one at the top and one at the bottom, would i be better off gettin the more modern type like ranchos or stick with the old double pin style? If i was going to get the newer style would i have to make my own mounting brackets for them or would i be able to buy them. also on the rears they have a single pin on the top and the more modern bolt loop on the bottom is that a good settup?

Must be a `67 only thing, or maybe `67 and earlier. `68 and up they have an O-bushing with a cross bolt to install on the bottom of the front shocks, at least on the F100 2wd.

i have been looking for shocks for it and the double pin/studs are hard to come by so iv'e been thinking about breaking out the torch and welder and making brackets for the double o-bushing type.that way if i get some bigger springs or lift blocks, i can get taller shocks.

the way i would look at it is how avaliable are the double pin type of shocks. can you just go buy them. if so i'd just go get them. if not them you may have to make something fit. i would think that they were readily avaliable though.

The style of mounting brackets is completely immaterial....it's what's inside that counts. I don't understand why you'd want to 'convert' to a different style of mounting bracket, it's not going to do a thing except cause a lot of unnecessary work. :hmm: Just get a good-quality shock that fits the brackets on your truck.

you do have a good point keith, it could be a lot of extra work but here are my reasons:

#1 i have heard that the o-bushing type are stronger?
#2 as shocks continue to get better and better- I want to be able to keep up with the technology so i can have whats best for my truck.
#3 after a few years- those double pin style might get more expensive as they become more rare
#4 I bored and might want a summer project

Are the mounting brackets for a '68 F100 2WD intercahngeable with the brackets on a '67 F250 4X4?
The reason I ask is that I have an old set of radius rods that still has the brackets on them. I have another set of radius rods I am going to use, so I could take the brackets off the bad radius rods and let you have them if they'd fit.
