ABOUT TO BUY 75 F-250 4X4
Hello all, I am about to be the new custodian of a 1975 F-250 4x4 with a 390 and manual tranny. I came across this site while researching drum brake repair. I used to have a 69 F-250 2 wheel drive and have always wanted a older 4x4. My daily commute vehicle is a 1996 F-250 4x4 diesel and I have a Ford diesel tractor so I guess that makes me a Ford guy. Anyhow, I am in need of a ton of help figuring out what to do on this vehicle, but first I need to do all four drum brakes so I am in the midst of gathering the sockets and assorted tools and parts to get started. Thanks to all the youtube videos I think I have the rear brakes figured out but I haven't come across much about the front drums and hubs/bearings. I pick the truck up next week and once home will dive into it. I am not a mechanic so I appreciate any help I can get. I just want to do the work myself and after buying the truck I am to broke to hire anyone to do it. I probably should switch out the front axle and convert to disc brakes up front when I can afford to, but right now just want to put new shoes on. The current owner says the wheel cylinders are new and the drums good..we'll see.

Hello...and welcome to the forum. Lots of good information here and a friendly crowd. A set of shop manuals and a Chiltons manual will get you headed the right dirction. Here's a link to the Chiltons...I found mine at the local auto parts store. I found the shop manuals on eBay.

Got my Chilton manual in the mail yesterday. Now I just have to figure out how to tell the old lady that I bought another truck and it only gets 6 miles to the gallon. I prepped her by showing some nice restored ones on youtube last night. She admitted she has always like them too, so it might work out.
