New from the High Desert of Oregon
Hello and thanks for letting me be apart of an awesome community. Last summer I purchased a 69 F350 DRW flatbed for $100. I liked it because it was unique in its own right. Someone had yarded out the original 390 and dropped in a Perkins 6.354 diesel. It is mated to the original NP transmission followed up by a 3 spd brownie (double under, direct, over). I've gotten it running and driving and have driven it for a while using temps but have sent everything off for proper registration and hope to have plates soon to enjoy it.
Meanwhile I'm working on replacing some brake components and need some help sorting that out. I'll post to the brakes section soon.
Until then, if there is anything you want to know about me or my project, or perhaps my 50 others, just ask. See ya!
EDIT: Something to look at...

Thanks for the welcom.lennyp wrote: from Massachusetts.
Dated a friend who lives in Springfield. First time I visited her I was surprised by the many tolls just to get around Boston. Also intersections with 5 or 6 streets converging together hahaha. The first time she told me to "take the second left at the next intersection" I was so lost.

Re: New from the High Desert of Oregon
There is a bit of a story behind it. I had mentioned to a friend I was looking for a diesel pickup and he said he knew of one that had a Perkins in it. Perkins? Never heard of it. He showed it to me out in a field bearing the ugliest color of green I had ever seen with junk piled on the bed. A month past and I had been contemplating on picking it up because of how unique it was. I went over to the property and looked it over. Someone came up to me and I asked them if they'd sell it. They said no.ok68crewcab wrote:Sounds like the best deal of the day.lamogo33 wrote: Last summer I purchased a 69 F350 DRW flatbed for $100.
Another month or so went by and I learned it was traded off to a friend of mine who also couldn't get it running. He pumps my gas at the local gas station. During my weekly fill up I offered him $200 bucks for it and he said he wouldn't take more than a $100 for it. So that's how I got it.

Re: New from the High Desert of Oregon
I'm not sure yet. I grew up around street rods and classics so I enjoy driving them. I'd love to keep it and make it a daily/poor-weather-hot-rod. Costs about $10.00 a week in Diesel fuel. If I were to go that route I'd like to clear the patina, lower it 4 inches, put wheels and tires on it, add some 3-4" stacks, and redo the bed with stake sides.Lone Ranger wrote:What are your plans for the truck?
However, my wife would like to see it gone... hahahaha

Re: New from the High Desert of Oregon
I was going to ask if there were any other Perkins swaps on the forum. I've seen a few others but they are newer swaps, this thing seems to be done about 30-40 years ago. Curious to find others. I'll get some more pictures soon once I get it cleaned up and driving again. Waiting on plates...Lone Ranger wrote:Nobody has really done any on this site.
