How to remove FORD hood letters?

How to remove FORD hood letters?
I'm prepping my 67 for paint and want to remove the FORD letters on the hood but don't understand how they are held on. It looks like very small locking nuts of some sort that don't seem to want to twist or pull off. How do I do this without damaging them? Thanks
67 F100 2wd SB Flareside. 240 I6 3 sp column shift. Originally Dept of Agriculture vehicle, now an urban pinestraw hauler.

67 hood letters are held in with barrel nuts and can be pried off or just pushed out from behind. Later models use different letters and are held on with self threading nuts.
