Re: vinyl top?
I think I saw one when I was a kid. Maybe if I used the two tone trim for around the back of the cab and the rain gutter trim might work. I'll have to look for a pic on how high that two tone trim goes.

Re: vinyl top?
An early Explorer model (1969) that Ford called the Spring Special or something like that had a 'vinyl' top. It was limited production and is pretty rare. The top was sprayed on like bedliner or something close. I have seen sprayed on tops but don't recall what they were on.
They had "special" Explorer wheel covers, air conditioning (I think) and factory bed rails as well.

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)

Here's another one:
It seems to have the same wheel covers but no bed rails.

Thanks 68RGR that looks pretty cool. Shows they used that rain gutter trim and the rear cab trim. I'm still on the fence about doing it but have to get my floors in today so it's down on the list.

Re: vinyl top?
Yes, my father bought one of these used around 1980. Same blue colour, wheel covers, "bed liner" vinyl looking top, and bed rails but it did not have A/C. It had a 302 AT with 3.25 gears. This was the only bumpside (or dentside) that we ever had that got respectable gas mileage......and we had a quite a few of them. The truck was driven by an older gentleman who worked for my father and it would get 17 mpg if driven gently like the older gent did.68RGR wrote:An early Explorer model (1969) that Ford called the Spring Special or something like that had a 'vinyl' top. Re: vinyl top?
Not sure I would like the vinyl top, but I am seriously considering two-toning my swb, flareside by putting on a boxwood green cab top over a mallard green body. Or possibly just a white top. And if I can find a non-chrome grille from an earlier model, match the grill, roof and "FORD" on the tailgate with that along with my wheels.
