Camper Special

Post by pimasav »

Just picked up a 69 F250 Camper Special; what exactly is different about a Camper Special? I'm going to assume it would relate to the springs, etc...

Yes, the main thing was the heavier suspension, but they also had a special 7-wire camper power harness, ammeter and oil pressure gauges (instead of idiot lights), plus heavy-duty radiator and shroud, larger alternator and battery, front marker lights, extended tailpipe, and the large West Coast style mirrors. Those were the standard items...all the other normal options could also be had, such as power disc brakes, power steering, A/C, etc.

I have a 68 camper special and i love it too. I like having disc brakes on the front and power steering. My first truck i ever owned didn't, it was a 69 custom. I did learn the hard way that parts for the camper special are hard to find and spendy. I've got over $400 in front rotors, bearings, seals, calipers and pads on the front and over 400 in rear shoes, bearings, seals, cyliders. and that is with me doing the work.

Man I would have called someone a liar if they said Ford ever put whitewalls on a 3/4 ton. They look like 16s on one piece wheels (not the more common 16.5s) I also never saw any 16s of that vintage that weren't 2 piece wheels. :hmm: :hmm:

Also it seems that the filler spout for the aux. tank seems to migrate around some.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

'67-'69 trucks had it high, above the beltline. '70-'72 trucks had it lower, below the belt-line.
