72 F100 Custom
Hi everyone. I recently have taken into my possession a 72 F100 custom 2WD. The engine's unknown for now, doesnt look big enough to be a bb but air cleaner has 460 written on the top. looks like a junk yard marked the cleaner with a yellow china marker. It's weird I think maybe the air cleaner was just replaced although I know the engines been replaced a long time ago. It was my Grandpa's truck, his dad bought it brand new. His dad passed away some time after buying it and he left it to my Grandpa who has had it ever since, and now its mine...pretty cool! My grandparents are in the proccess of moving and they can't hang onto it anymore. He asked me if I wanted it and I said YES! It's been parked at their house for about a year, was running when parked. I had it shipped all the way accross the US of A (CA to OH) on a car carrier. What fun that was. It arrived at my house with a flat tire and dead battery. One quick battery swap from my dd, one good neighbor, one friend, and starting fluid and them putting some arse into it pushing and me spinning rim inside the tire we managed to get it into my garage. Seemed to weigh as much as a tank. I'm deciding on what i'd like to do with it. I may just restore it as original but not sure. Any ideas? My grandpa said son it's going to take alot of work and its very rusty and I laughed and said you have no idea what rust is. It arrived here three tone haha blue white and brown. I always remembered it being brown but thats has been just surface rust the whole time. If I wipe on it in those areas with a wet rag I can get right down to the blue. It's solid. Really excited about my new truck and finding this site which is devoted to the model. Hope I can learn alot about this truck while having fun along the way and maybe getting tips on total restorations along the way. Sorry about the length and thanks for reading. A NEW AND PROUD OWNER.

Re: 72 F100 Custom
from Iowa. One easy way to see what engine family you have is check and see how many valve cover bolts there are. I believe an fe has 5, a 335(351C/351M/400M) has 8, and a 385(429/460) has 7

Re: 72 F100 Custom
I would run the vin# if you can't find it on the truck it should be on your title. Do a search on Google for ford vin#. We thought we had a 302 for a while but none of the parts fit. After running the vin we found it was a 360, now all the parts fit.
