I am considering getting new front and rear shocks for my 1970 F100 lwb. Any suggestions for some good brands to look for? What
specifically should I look for in a shock?

I've always had good luck with monroe shocks on my truck. In the past 10 yrs or so, there have been a lot of advancement in shocks and you can tie a lot of $$$$ in shocks real easily. If your truck is a daily driver and you haven't done a lot of mods to the suspension like a crown vic front end etc.... then IMO the adjustable shocks are a bit of a waste of money. You can get a pretty good shock in the $25 - $35 dollar range.

O'Reilys has a Monroe-Matic for $21.99 each, both rear and front.

Those are a nitrogen charged shock and would probably be a good choice. Gabriel probably makes a decent shock as well. I believe I saw gabriels going for around 19 apiece at autozone recently. I don't have any experience with them though.

i put Gabriel load carrier shocks front and back and i am very pleased with the way they look on the truck and that it stiffened up the chassis a good bit and added from what i have heard an extra 1000 ls of payload capacity

Monroe Gas Magnum

But if I could cross reference a Bilstein I'd use them.
need to look up some specs...
wonder whats different from the 70's to the 80-84?

I just put a set of Monroe Gas Magnum's on my truck and wow, what a difference! $119 for the set - great bang for the buck.
